Tips for Storing Your Yarn Stash

Why is it so easy to become a yarn hoarder? First, you are looking for a few skeins of yarn for a project and BAM, your entire guest room is piled high with yarn. How did this happen? 

We scoured Pinterest for the most clever yarn storage ideas and this is our list of favorites. We love how beautiful and organized our yarn stash can be by applying a few of these ideas.

Yarn Storage Bins

Whether you like to sort your yarn by color, brand or fiber, storage bins are a great way to neatly store your yarn. Airtight plastic bins keep your yarn fresh and new. Slim bins slide easily under a bed and also stack. Label the bins for easy access to the perfect yarn for all of your knitting projects.

Cubby Shelf Storage 

There is something so beautiful and soothing about a wall of neatly sorted yarn. Create a "yarn wall" in your home with some staggered cubby shelving. Using cube organizers is a fabulous, less permanent way to achieve this look without having to install actual shelving. The cool thing about cube organizers is that you can reconfigure them as needed when you add or use yarn.

Yarn Basket

If your yarn stash hasn't reached catastrophic proportions yet, use some cute crocheted or wicker baskets to store your yarn. We love the idea of a yarn basket because it is portable and easy to stow anywhere. Sort each basket by color or even by project and organize that yarn stash without going to extreme lengths.

Hanging Closet Storage

Hanging closet storage shelves aren't just for shoes and clothes. Hang a closet organizer in a guest bedroom closet and use the cubbies to organize your yarn stash. Maximizing the vertical space of a closet is a great yarn storage solution when space is tight.

If you love symmetry and want to turn your yarn into wall art, use 4" PVC pipe and cut them down into little yarn cubbies. This is such an ingenious and inexpensive way to store yarn in a beautiful way.
